Message from the Head Teacher

I would like to thank you for taking time to look at our website.

Easingwold is a successful 11 – 18 school, with a thriving sixth form, located on the outskirts of the pleasant market town of Easingwold, a few miles north of York.
Academically, the school produces some very good results for many students, over 64% of Year 11 Students achieved 5A*-C with English and Maths in 2013. Progress rates in our sixth form in 2013 means that we are now the best performing  comprehensive sixth form in North Yorkshire. Our students are able to fulfil their aspirations; over 40% of Y13 students got places at distinguished Russell Group of universities this summer.
This excellent performance is underpinned by high expectations allied to traditional values, as highlighted by our house-based uniform.
The school is located on a spacious site and has some excellent specialist facilities, which we are steadily improving. We are currently moving into the planning and fundraising phases for building a new state-of-the-art sports hall and a community floodlit astro-turf pitch. We expect this to happen within the school careers of pupils who join us in Year 7 in September 2013. We have also been allocated funds by the Local Authority to refurbish many of our science labs in 2014 as well as improving our changing and showering faciltities for students.
Students join us from many schools, although the majority come from ten high performing local primary schools. Every year a significant number of parents choose to entrust their son’s or daughter’s education to us from out of catchment area, mainly from York.
The school is a close-knit community of approximately 1050 students and we pride ourselves on the high level of pastoral care we provide, particularly through our house and vertical tutoring system which extends into the sixth form where all students can expect fortnightly one to one progress and support meeting with our Personal Academic Tutors. This is a friendly, caring and happy school where students are encouraged to enjoy all aspects of their school work and to develop confidence in their abilities. The students and staff are justly proud of their achievements and contributions to the wider community.
Every student is offered a broad, balanced and relevant range of courses following the National Curriculum. At the end of Year 9, students make a number of option choices before they begin their Key Stage 4 courses which include a range of traditional GCSEs such as separate sciences, and sixth form students are also able to choose from a very wide range of academic courses.
Students experience an exceptionally wide range of high quality, extra-curricular activities, with  opportunities for mind-broadening foreign exchanges. We are justifiably proud of the range of opportunities offered to our students beyond the classroom.  Our House system enables more students to experience competitive sport or to take part in public performance.
It is an honour to lead a school with such a positive reputation within its community and beyond, and I pledge to dedicate myself to making our school become the very best in the north of England by 2017. Academic excellence, personal support, continual challenge and developing the whole person are characteristics that make Easingwold School such a wonderful place to be. I hope that you enjoy our website and I very much welcome any suggestions as to how we might make it even more useful.
